She Tris is an event for women of all ages, sizes, ability levels and backgrounds. Daughters, mothers, sisters, aunts, and grandmothers can all participate together.  She Tris will take place at I’On Club and surrounding neighborhoods on June 10, 2017. The triathlon is an all women’s sprint distance consisting of a 200 Yard Swim, 9 Mile Bike and 2 Mile Run. The course offers glimpses of the Cooper River Bridge, Charleston Harbor and surrounding marsh lands, views of luxurious waterfront coastal Carolina style homes all with a backdrop of palmetto and grand oak trees.  Mostly a flat course, She Tris is the area’s only pool swim and women’s specific triathlon.  Spectators will find it easy to cheer on their athletes all over the course.   Participants can smile and wave to their family and friends as they cheer them on!

The She Tris website shetris.com is designed to be a resource for first time and seasoned triathletes.  She Tris will offer many clinics prior to the race to aid participants in having a fun, successful race where they feel prepared.  Clinics will provide participants an opportunity to improve their swim technique, practice transitions and preview the course.

She Tris believes in encouraging women to have a healthy lifestyle and to create their own journey to participate in the sport of triathlon. Tri it For Life is our natural fit for a charitable partner and proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit. Tri It For Life mentors spend 12 weeks helping athletes discover a new title—Triathlete! All too often, women find themselves putting others first. Tri It For Life not only helps women train for their first women’s only triathlon, they encourage women to put themselves first. Since 2008, more than a 1,800 women athletes supported by over 800 mentors have crossed the finished line. Tri It for life helps women start the journey to become triathletes by saying, “You can do it!”  triitforlife.com.

However and wherever the journey starts, She Tris is an event any woman can accomplish. If she believes she can, she will!

Course Information

Swim:

The swim is a 200 meter pool swim in the I’on Club. Participants start at one side of the pool and snake their way up and down each lane as they work towards the other side of the pool. Being a pool swim race, participants must submit an estimated 100 yard swim time when registering. These times are used for seeding purposes. It is in your best interest to submit a time as accurate as possible. Submitting a time that is too fast for you puts you up with swimmers who will be passing you during the swim – not good for you or them. Putting a time that is too slow places you with slower swimmers and forces you to have to pass everyone. The ideal scenario for all participants is to have people submit accurate times – the whole swim flows better.Swim caps are not provided for pool swim events. If you would like to wear a swim cap, then be sure to bring your own.

The swim start process involves all the athletes seeded by estimated swim time.

Bike:

The bike course is a two loop 9 mile course. The course is flat and takes place in the local neighborhoods. The roads are open to traffic – but traffic is usually fairly light.

Run:

The 2 mile run course is an out and back-through the I’On Community. The course is partially shaded and completely flat..

The She Tris Sprint Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned race.

Cut-Off Time:

All participants must complete the race in under 2 hours 15 minutes. Race officials reserve the right to pull a participant off the course if it appears as though that participant will not be able to meet the above time requirements. This is a safety issue, our permits, volunteers, police, ems, etc are only reserved for the above time restrictions.

Minimum Age:

Entry in the She Tris Sprint Triathlon is open to individuals 10 years of age or older.

Timing System:

The She Tris Sprint Triathlon will be timed using the ChampionChip Timing System. (5 splits provided)

RELAY AWARDS (Top 3)

The award ceremony will begin at an estimated time of 11:15 AM.  If for any reason you are unable to stay for the awards, please ensure you have someone who can pick up your award for you.  Awards will not be mailed out.  The awards ceremony will take place adjacent to the finish line.

Relay Team Information

  • Relays can be 2-person (one person does 2 legs, and one person does 1 leg) or 3-person teams (each person does 1 leg of the event).
  • EACH Relay member MUST pick up her own packet.
  • EACH Member MUST have their photo ID and USAT card (if applicable) to pick up their packet.
  • If a member is a minor (17 or under), then a parent/guardian must show an ID to get their packet.
  • If a member turns 18 by the end of the year they are considered an Adult per USAT, thus they must pick up their own packet.
  • If you need to replace a relay member you can e-mail us using the Contact Us button at the top of the page with the changes.
  • If it is the week of the event and you need to make a change to a relay member then you can make this change at packet pick up.
  • At packet pick up you will be given a sheet of paper that explains how the relays will work (chip hand off, tagging spot, etc.).
  • If you are an individual that wishes to switch to a relay team, then you can e-mail us, using the Contact Us button at the top of the page, the following information: Team Name, Team Member Names, Team Member Shirt sizes. You will need to pay the difference to convert to a relay, which you can pay at packet pick up (cash or check only). If it is the week of the event, then you can make these changes at packet pick up

REFUND POLICY

New for 2017: Registration Protection will be available to purchase during registration. Registration Protection is provided through Allianz.  Purchasing this protection allows you to get reimbursed up to 100% if you cannot attend the event for a number of reasons, including covered injury, illness, traffic accidents, and the added benefit of protection in the instance that you are required to work for a covered reason.

TRANSFERS

If you cannot make this years event, you may transfer to next years She Tris Sprint Triathlon if notification is given >3 weeks prior to the event.  Your registration may only be transferred/deferred once.  Transferring a registration to another person is not allowed.  Considerable effort goes into producing such an event and funds are expended and applied in good faith based on a registration. Thank you very much for your understanding of this policy.

WEATHER POLICY

Races are rain or shine unless we determine that race conditions are dangerous. If the race is cancelled there will be no refunds. This position is consistent with USAT recommendations and with the protocol of sharing the risks associated with the sport of triathlon. In the event of inclement weather, Acts of God, or unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any/all portions of the race. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as t-shirts, insurance, and online administrative fees. All fees collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies. In the event of inclement weather, the following is the She Tris Sprint Triathlon plan of action.

Thunderstorms / Lightning

Race start may be delayed (up to 30 minutes) until weather conditions are safe. If weather continues, the event will be changed to a duathlon (bike – run format) with a time trial start. No event day transfers will be issued if the event is reformatted due to inclement weather.

Natural disaster (hurricane, tornado)

If the triathlon is cancelled due to natural disaster, every effort will be made to reschedule the event.  Registrants will receive a 100% credit to participate in the rescheduled event.  If the event cannot be rescheduled later in the year, a 75% credit will be issued for all registered triathlon participants into the following years She Tris Sprint Triathlon.

Packet Pick Up Location

I’on Club (race site) –  252 Ponsbury Rd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464

June 9th (Friday) between 3:00pm – 6:00pm

June 10th (Saturday) between 5:45am – 7:10am.

If you do not pick up packet materials during the designated pick up times listed you will not be allow to race. There will be no exceptions made. You must collect your own packet. No other person will be allowed to pick up your packet. Government issued photo ID will be required to pick up materials.

PLEASE NOTE: T-shirts are guaranteed to participants who register prior to May 20, 2016.

USAT members must show a valid USAT membership card or pay the one day membership fee, $15.

TRANSITION AREA / Body marking

The transition area will be open on race day from 5:45 am – 7:10 am. Any athlete that arrives after 7:10 am will not be allowed into the transition area. Body marking will take place outside transition area between 5:45 am – 7:10 am. All bikes must display the proper bike frame number. Access to the transition area to retrieve bike and gear after finishing will not be allowed until the last athlete has started the run.

TIMING CHIP PICK UP

Timing chips can be picked up race morning under the chip pick-up tent at 5:45 am – 7:10 am.

ATHLETE BRIEFING

The athlete briefing will be held on site during packet pick up Friday, June 9th, at 6:00pm at the finish line. Race directors will need approximately 30 minutes to review the details of the race. After that time the floor will be opened up for questioning until all are answered.
