The swim takes place in beautiful Clarks Hill Lake (also know to South Carolinians as Strom Thurmond Reservior). Participants will have the rush of a sandy beach start prior to the swim of 1500 meters clockwise with bouys being placed at 150-200 meter intervals.
The bike course is a lollipop shape. Participants will head right out of West Dam Park and onto Clarks Hill Road, this is a five mile section of flat fast riding. After crossing Washington Road participants will veer right onto Cobham Road. The next turn will be a left onto Ray Owens Road which will take participants towards Appling, GA. Participants will the take a hard left onto Scotts Ferry Road which turns into Clarks Hill Road, taking participants back to the transition area. Overall this course is rolling with one aid station located around the 12 mile mark.
The run is an out and back course, which will take participants back down Clarks Hill Road before turning around near Sailing Center Drive. The course will be moderately shaded, with rolling hills, with aid stations each mile to mile and a half.

The Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned race.
All participants must complete the race in under 4 hours 00 minutes. Race officials reserve the right to pull a participant off the course if it appears as though that participant will not be able to meet the above time requirements. This is a safety issue, our permits, volunteers, police, ems, etc are only reserved for the above time restrictions.
Entry in the Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon is open to individuals 14 years of age or older.
The Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon will be timed using the ChampionChip Timing System. (5 splits provided)

New for 2017: Registration Protection will be available to purchase during registration. Registration Protection is provided through Allianz. Purchasing this protection allows you to get reimbursed up to 100% if you cannot attend the event for a number of reasons, including covered injury, illness, traffic accidents, and the added benefit of protection in the instance that you are required to work for a covered reason.

If you cannot make this years event, you may transfer to next years Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon if notification is given >3 weeks prior to the event. Your registration may only be transferred/deferred once. Transferring a registration to another person is not allowed. Considerable effort goes into producing such an event and funds are expended and applied in good faith based on a registration. Thank you very much for your understanding of this policy.
Races are rain or shine unless we determine that race conditions are dangerous. If the race is cancelled there will be no refunds. This position is consistent with USAT recommendations and with the protocol of sharing the risks associated with the sport of triathlon. In the event of inclement weather, Acts of God, or unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any/all portions of the race. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid including other amenities paid for such as t-shirts, insurance, and online administrative fees. All fees collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies. In the event of inclement weather, the following is the Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon plan of action.
Race start may be delayed (up to 30 minutes) until weather conditions are safe. If weather continues, the event will be changed to a duathlon (bike – run format) with a time trial start. No event day transfers will be issued if the event is reformatted due to inclement weather.
If the triathlon is cancelled due to natural disaster, every effort will be made to reschedule the event. Registrants will receive a 100% credit to participate in the rescheduled event. If the event cannot be rescheduled later in the year, a 75% credit will be issued for all registered triathlon participants into either another Georgia Endurance Series event or the following years Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon.
September 8th (Friday) between 3:00pm – 6:00pm at West Dam Park
September 9th (Saturday) between 5:45am – 6:45am at the race site.
If you do not pick up packet materials during the designated pick up times listed you will not be allow to race. There will be no exceptions made. You must collect your own packet. No other person will be allowed to pick up your packet. Government issued photo ID will be required to pick up materials.
USAT members must show a valid USAT membership card or pay the one day membership fee, $15 cash only.
TRANSITION AREA / Body marking
The transition area will be open on race day from 5:45 am – 6:45 am promptly. Any athlete that arrives after 6:45 am will not be allowed into the transition area. Body marking will take place outside transition area between 5:45 am – 6:45 am. All bikes must display the proper bike frame number. Access to the transition area to retrieve bike and gear after finishing will not be allowed until the last athlete has started the run.
TIMING CHIP PICK UP
Timing chips can be picked up race morning under the timing chip tent from 5:45 am – 6:45 am.
The athlete briefing will be held on site during packet pick up Friday, September 8th, at 6:00pm at the finish line. Race directors will need approximately 30 minutes to review the details of the race. After that time the floor will be opened up for questioning until all are answered.
